Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Bernardo P. Pardo recently donated various law books to the Legal Service. The donation is the latest addition to the growing reference materials of the LS Library. Under the stewardship of its visionary Director, POLICE CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT HEROLD G UBALDE, the LS is continuously updating its stockpile of legal references. The improvement of the LS Library is part of the Director’s thrust to improve the unit’s existing facilities.
“A functional legal library is essential to the success of any law firm. The LS is “the law firm” for the PNP. It is my vision to be able to develop a comprehensive law library for the LS capable of generating a wide range of legal resources which may be easily accessed by our legal officers., pointed out PCSUPT UBALDE.
Justice Pardo is an amicus of the LS. Amicus is a latin term which means “friend”. He has been a long time friend to the uniformed service having been named as the 68th Philippine Constabulary Anniversary Awardee in 1964. His insightful opinions are always sought by the LS on various legal issues concerning the PNP. In fact, owing to his appointment as the Commission’s chairperson in 1995, the LS sought his astute guidance on the total gun ban rule imposed by the COMELEC during the last national and local elections.
The LS is also inviting other legal luminaries into the “friend” list of the PNP. Donations of old law books and other legal materials will be very much welcomed.
